Top Ten Tuesday #125

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and is a chance for everyone to get to know fellow bloggers and share lists. I love lists. Every week is a different list.

Top Ten Tuesday
This week is Top Ten
Books I Did Not Finish But Will Return To
I find myself nowadays DNFing more and more. If I'm not feeling a book there's no point in trying to force myself to finish it - I'll just resent the book even more. I'm a mood reader so often it's just that I'm not in the mood and more likely than not I'll try again another time. So here are ten that I DNFed but will come back to. Eventually.
  1. A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab
  2. The Next Together by Lauren James
  3. The Square Root of Summer by Harriet Reuter Hapgood
  4. The Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart
  5. The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton
  6. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  7. Landry Park by Bethany Hagen
  8. Edwin: High King of Britain by Edoardo Albert
  9. Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
  10. Black Widow: Forever Red by Margaret Stohl

    Do you DNF books?

    1. I heard Black Widow: Forever Red was kind of disappointing, so I never did read it, but I am still curious about it...

      1. I heard that too when I first picked it up, so I only read a chapter then put it aside.

    2. Ooh I do hope you try A Darker Shade of Magic again someday if you're in the mood for it! I know sometimes it's better just to DNF a book completely if it doesn't work for you though! I didn't really like Miss Peregrine's either so you're not missing much there.😂😂

      1. It's one I'm definitely going to try again because I've heard so many good things!

    3. I wish I could have DNF-ed The queens of Innis Lear as well but I was part of a Blog tour and when I apply for something like that I always follow through which means finishing the book.

      1. Oh no that's a shame!
I hate it when it's a tour book and I have to push through. I try to ask for guesposts/additional content so I don't get caught out.

    4. Oh, I love A Darker Shade of Magic. I have the third to finally read ASAP. I have read Miss Peregrine too, and I enjoyed it, but I don't really have an interest to read the others in the series.

      1. ADSOM is one I'm excited to give another go. But Miss Peregrine has been sat on my desk at work for over a year, untouched!

    5. I do DNF books but I try to finish all my books though! I had a hard time with Miss Peregrine too, but in the end it was an okay book for me!😊

      1. I think it's one I need to try again sooner rather than later.

    7. I really loved Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children! It’s definitely one of those books you have to be in the mood to read, though. I hope you enjoy it when you eventually get around to it! ☺️

    9. The Shades of Magic trilogy is one of my favorites. I hope you'll end up enjoying it when you get back to it.

    10. Ooh! Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs!
I read the first one and then.. stopped in the middle of the second one? Or did I finish it.. See, I don't even remember! Simply because I didn't like the second one all that much, haha. I plan on finishing the series eventually though. Someday. :')

    11. I wish I had DNFed The Square Root of Summer- I found it all so confusing! I really liked The Next Together though 😊

    12. I plan on returning to Landry Park as well! Great list. I hope you enjoy the books you DNF but plan to give another chance to.

    13. A Black Widow book? I didn't know about this so I might give that one a go. I DNF a few books - recent ones were Into The Water (just hated it!), Wonder Woman : Warbringer and Emmeline Pankhurst's My Own Story. I just couldn't get into the last two when I tried to read them so I'll try them again another time.

    14. I try and desperately not DNF books, even if I'm not enjoying it because I feel like whatever I have read so far has been a waste of time if I don't finish it. Plus if it's a review copy, I still tend to review books I don't like on my blog so I kinda have to finish it for that purpose (unless it's really dire!) I didn't finish The Girl on the Train, I just couldn't get into that one.

    15. i have a few books that i started and stopped reading. i need to get back into them. it is mainly because i lost interest in the plot but i don't like to leave something unfinished

    16. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a brilliant book, however the second and third book in the series are not as good, it was difficult to finish the third book, the first one is 100% worth finishing!:) x

    17. I have a collection of books (taking up just over half a bookshelf) that each have a bookmark sticking out of them at the point where I stopped. My plan is to go back to each one at some point, but they weren't the right book at the time I was trying to read them.

I don't think stopping part way through always means a book is badly written though. My pile includes "The Power" by Naomi Alderman (Winner of the 2017 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction) which I stopped reading because I was finding the violence too much to process. I plan to go back to it when I'm feeling "more robust".

    18. I try SO hard not to DNF books, but sometimes it just happens... Life has a way of messing up my plans at times lol! I did really enjoy Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children though - definitely one you should pick up again if you have the chance!

    19. I really dislike starting a book and not finishing it, but sometimes you just don't really enjoy it enough sadly. Luckily I haven't really had that recently, but have a book on the side that I need to finish!
