The Longest Books I’ve Ever Read

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and is a chance for everyone to get to know fellow bloggers and share lists. I love lists. Every week is a different list.

Top Ten Tuesday
This week is Top Ten
Longest Books I’ve Ever Read
This is probably the easiest Top Ten Tuesday I've ever take part in haha. I simply went to my "Read" shelf on Goodreads, added page numbers in the settings, then sorted by page number. I have decided to only include one book per series when it comes to Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and Outlander, otherwise they'd probably be the only titles on this list, and that would be boring.
  • Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke - 1024 pages
I was still in high school when I read this, twice, over the course of a month. It was a hefty book, hardback and with black sprayed edges, and I think it was the footnotes which meant it took me so long.
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling - 870 pages
I can't believe that this book is longer than Outlander and A Game of Thrones. I know when I was reading it it only took two days (was anyone else a massive Potterhead?)
  • Cross Stitch (Outlander) by Diana Gabaldon  - 868 pages
I have read this first book a couple of times since first picking it up as a teen, but I've never really read on as the books are So. Bloody. Long.
  • The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray - 834 pages
I feel like this book was a bit of a let down after the first two in the series were so good, but I'm glad I read it.
  • A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin - 819 pages
I feel like this took me an age to read! I read it over around two weeks but it felt like longer, and I wouldn't rush to pick up any of the other books in the series. Perhaps I'll audiobook them?
  • The Midnight Rose by Lucina Riley - 689 pages
This book was sent to me by a fellow blogger so I could do a guest review on their blog. It was a fantastic story and didn't feel nearly this long while I was reading it.
  • Priestess of the White by Trudi Canavan - 688 pages
This is actually one of my least favourite Trudi Canavan books, as I feel it just doesn't live up to the world of the Black Magician Trilogy.
  • Sundowners by Lesley Lokko - 672 pages
This is one of my favourite summer reads and I try to reread it every year. It's perfect for long sunny days with a glass of wine.
  • The Accursed by Joyce Carol Oates - 669 pages
This is one I wish I'd never bothered with. If I picked it up now I would quickly DNF but back when I read this I felt I had to finish every book, and I definitely did not enjoy The Accursed.
  • The High Lord by Trudi Canavan - 659 pages
This book is probably my favoruite in the series, so I'm glad it was the longest! I love how Sonea and Akkarin's relationship develops and changes, and how everything comes to a head.

What's the longest book you've read?

    1. I've only done one of the Game of Thrones books on audio, and it was good except that it's narrated by an older gentleman (Roy Dotrice, who has since passed, and played a small part in the tv series) and while he does a lovely job, all of the female characters sound like old, old women, lol.

      1. I've listened to the audiobook as well and I totally get what you mean! It helped to listen to it sped up a bit, but yeah every female character sounded like a very old woman.

    2. Great list! I have Outlander and keep seeing it everywhere. I will have to bump it higher on my list!

    3. The Game of Thrones books always look so intimidating.

    4. I've read some of these!! I usually avoid long books but sometimes I get brave and try it.😂 I read all the Game of Thrones and definitely adored them (I think A Dance With DRagons clocks up in the 1000 pages eeek) and I kind of am curious about Outlander. I might try the show first though (gasp bookworm taboo!)

    5. So, while HP and the Order of the Phoenix may have more pages than Game of Thrones, the font size is also larger (at least there's a very noticeable difference in font size in my copies of each of those books), which makes GoT a longer read. (This is why I used the Kindle page count from Amazon for my list because I'm pretty sure it is factored on word count more than anything else).

Hope you have a great week. - Katie

    6. I've been meaning to read Jonathan Strange for such a long time! 🙈

    7. Game of Thrones took forever for me to read too! It didn't help that I read them all back to back. I was reading them for nearly half the year last year!

    8. The only book by Libba Bray I've ever read was Going Bovine, but I remember that being a chunkster, too!

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    9. sadly, I have only read the harry potter series and none of the other books on your list. I did read the harry potter books quite fast, I guess it helps that I actually like harry.

      have a lovely day.

    11. Order of the Phoenix is the only one of these I've read, and it would have been at the top of my list had I done this prompt. I think I took a day to read it the first (well, technically second) time I read it, because I was so engrossed 😊

    14. It would have to be the Harry Potter one for me. I hate large books, i just lose interest but of course that series was something else and it kept me reading.

    17. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Game of Thrones made my list as well this week! I've also read quite a few Trudi Canavan books and I really like her writing, but because I'd read other longer books, I couldn't include her in my top ten. I didn't realise Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell was so big!

    19. I have not read any of the novels on your TTT post! They look like really good reads. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to get around to reading a few of them!

    23. I saw Outlander and HP on lots of lists this week. They're not my kind of reads in terms of plot/story, but now I'm even more bookworm skittish of them because of those page counts. :D

Thanks so much for the Finding Wonderland visit; apologies it took me this long to make a return visit. :)
