Book Beginnings #31

For Book Beginnings, Rose City Reader invites us to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

For Friday 56 Freda's Voice asks you to turn to Page 56 in your book or 56% on your e-reader and pick a sentence. This is my first time

I am currently reading Margot & Me by Juno Dawson.

"The problem with young people today," Margot said about an hour ago, "is that, from birth, every single one has been told they are somehow special." We were at the Welcome Break motorway services, pacing back and fourth on the grassy verge, stretching stiff legs.
Can Juno do any wrong when it comes to writing? No, probably not. She is an amazing author. I am so excited to be starting this. I can't wait to properly get into it and start discussing it as I read, I know a lot of people are starting to pick this up now.

I love the initial tone, the disdain from Margot. I love the ordinary setting, how ambiguous it is.I can't wait to get stuck in and I have a feeling that this will be difficult to put down.
I shiver a bit. I try to imagine the sirens, the smoke, the panic. I try to imagine squatting down in the cellar. I am standing in history, right now. I guess we always are.
Ooh man. Just look at that. I'm shivering a bit. I can't wait to get to this bit of the book!

This book is also the February group read for the YAShot Goodreads Group.

  1. I'm wondering what Margot's statement has to do with the rest of the book, and I'd keep reading to find out. Your Teaser made me curious too. What's going on in the cellar?
