For Book Beginnings, Rose City Reader invites us to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
For Friday 56, Freda's Voice asks you to turn to Page 56 in your book or 56% on your e-reader and pick a sentence.
I am currently reading Clique Bait by Ann Vallett (gifted copy).
My first line isn't the actual first line. The first lines are a letter to another character and I decided to start with the passage immediately after instead, mostly because I think it gives a better feel of the writing, and because it really packs a punch.
I like this start, it has me excited for the rest of the story. I like the imagery.
At this point in the story we're just starting chapter five and Chloe has barely started on her infiltration mission. We're still meeting the characters and working out their motives in the group and trying to work out their secrets.
I am thoroughly enjoying Clique Bait by Ann Vallett.
I was sent a free review copy of Clique Bait by Ann Vallett after I requested it from the publisher. It's not out until the end of April, but I received my review copy yesterday and started it immediately. Oops. The first time I wore this shade of lipstick, I was eleven.

Sophie's eyes were the first to flit up to mine. They were ever so slightly creased in the corners, as if she knew a brilliant secret that you'd never catch on to.This is from page 56 in my review copy, so likely won't match up with ebooks and finished copies!
