Book Beginnings: The Mermaid, The Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall

For Book Beginnings, Rose City Reader invites us to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

For Friday 56, Freda's Voice asks you to turn to Page 56 in your book or 56% on your e-reader and pick a sentence.

I am currently reading The Mermaid, The Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall.

Long after the sun had set, when the passengers were nestled neatly in their cabins, the crew gathered on the deck of the Dove.

I was sent a free review copy of The Mermaid, The Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall.

I am so excited for this book. Queer pirates? Yes please.

The cover is absolutely stunning, I adore the details. It's so pretty, I would love it as an art print.

Evelyn's eyes went wide. "Don't you dare burn a book."

This is from page 56 in my review copy.

I am nowhere near this far but I have to agree with Evelyn, they'd better not dare burn a book!

What are you reading this week?
