Book Review and Giveaway: Eloping with the Laird by Jeanine Englert *AD gifted

I was provided with a free ebook of Eloping with the Laird by Jeanine Englert ahead of the blog tour.

This book was so perfect. I read it in a single sitting, staying up until 3am on a work night, and I have no regrets.

Eloping with the Laird by Jeanine Englert Mills & Boon historical romance book cover

5 Word Review: Family, history, acceptance, belonging, love.

You know when you promise yourself just one more chapter before bed because you have work the next day, and then you look up after turning the last page and your eyes are gritty and it's 3 am? That.

My heart broke for Moira so many times. I hated how her father dangled freedom of choice before her, he was so cruel and selfish. It seemed like so many of the characters who should care, her family, didn't care about what had happened to her in the past and only wanted to sell her like cattle to the highest bidder. I loved seeing Moira take her future into her own hands. She is fighting her past and blossoming into a different person, and her growth of confidence was incredible.

I thought that Rory's understanding and handling of Moira's trauma was amazing. He has his own sad past, and is fighting a curse in the present, but he still opens his heart to love. I loved him so much, his determination to keep Moira safe and his will to live.

I thought I had the culprit of the mystery all worked out early on, but it wasn't quite as I had expected. I loved being right-yet-wrong.

The love that these two held for each other could melt even the coldest of hearts. It was full of mutual trust and acceptance and care. They gave each other time and they fought to keep the other safe, they gave them space when it was needed. They were fiercely protective of each other and it was beautiful to see the heroine fight just as hard as the hero for the one she loved.

The writing is filled with small details that bring the historical setting alive. I could feel fur against my skin, paper beneath my fingers, smell the fresh air. I loved how the weather was almost a character in itself, and it made this the perfect read for winter.

The end of this book is like a soft, satisfied sigh. It was so lovely, and so perfect. As much as I want to read more about Moira and Rory, I am content that their story really does end with a Happy Ever After rather than a Happy For Now.

This was an exquisite historical romance. It's my second Jeanine Englert and will absolutely not be my last. This author is fast becoming an auto-buy author.
